Hello! Well it's been business as usual at the Doggies camp...  A variant of the on-line article written about us below (see 1/2008) made it to print in the San Pedro local paper.

CORAZON DE CAMPEON: 2 songs have been picked up for an independent Mexican film by the talented Joel Vallie.  You can see the trailer to the movie at www.myspace.com/joelvallie  More details later...

Happy New Years All!  Here are a few kind words that were written about us:

"Cry Havoc, Let loose the Dogs…," said Shakespeare, It is time for you to meet the Satellite Dogs.
From out of Long Beach, hail one of the most interesting groups I have heard in a while, The Satellite Dogs. They are fronted by singer songwriter's Mike Salas, Vocals Guitar, Harmonica & Mike DeBe Vocals, Guitar & Mandolin , with Douglas Freyre on Bass & backing vocals and Alan Combies on Drums (Who did not play that night, it was an almost all acoustic show).
These men are cut from the same cloth as Dylan and tailored like REM; they play with power, passion and conviction. Writing songs that are accessible yet not "American Idol" Pop fodder, songs that matter with the musical chops to back it up. These "Dogs" have been around the block for a while, and show the artisanship of learned journeymen. Their songs were featured in the Indie film release of 2000 "The Waiters", and have a CD that came out in 2006 called Showdown at Big Dalton.
Satellite Dogs at the Liquid Lounge in Long Beach
Random Lengths News rolled into this fine Long Beach bar, was immediately surprised at the friendly atmosphere and the (thank god) lack of pretentiousness that you get from the Pine street joints. Here was a place made for real people; I guess my best description was it had soul, instead of the jukebox; we had Jim Ladd from KLOS pumped into the room for some free form rock that played well within this rustic urban setting.
We got a spot at one of those raised natural grain tables with wooden bar stools, in front of the band. As we kicked, back a cool beverage, taking the edge off the short drive across the island from Pedro. The Satellite Dogs started right in a strong tempo with "Something's Coming" a fiery mix of electric and acoustic guitars, with a stand up double bass driving the bottom end.
This is a small stage area, but for semi acoustic music it is perfect and the sound was great from where we were in the room. The second song of the evening is a killer number called "Gift Giver", and this song should be in heavy rotation on every rock and college station in America.
This band has a very real organic feel to their music, a harmonious soundscape with vivid lyrical imagery. They followed up next with "The Lie", "Radio Girl", then the electric guitar was replaced with a mandolin on "Fools".
I might compare this group to REM, but I do not think it fair to either band, The Satellite Dogs have their own vision, so this point one might make, is mute. They rounded out the set with "Drag", "Shed Another Skin" and finally "Tail Lights"
The Satellite Dogs will be in town on January 25 at the San Pedro Brewing Company at 331 West 6th Street, or you can catch them at the Liquid Lounge at 3522 East Anaheim Street (Redondo and Anaheim) in Long Beach on December 27.
You get their CD from cdbaby.com or buy it from the band at the show, you can contact them at myspace.com/satellitedogs or satellitedogs.com

"I end up airing less than 1% of the music I'm sent, just so you know the odds."  Both Tough Girl and Radio Girl have been aired.  Tune in at the following:

Checkout the "Fools" video on our Listen Veiw page.

Funny little story here...back in 2004 Frank Garcia of Garcia Video Services offered as a present to tape a show before long time friend Douglas (bassist) headed up to Seattle, WA.  It was a great venue and good amount of preparation had ensued but unfortunately it was a rather disturbing show.  We were purposely delayed 2 hours by the club...needless to say we were rather ripped and pissed...and it sounded that way!  If this great band ever amounts to anything the DVD (performance) of this evening will haunt us forever.  Frank did a great job and as a plus managed to piece together a video of one song from our full set that gives a good picture of the band.  After we finished the studio recording Frank replaced the live version with the studio version and it kicks!  Enjoy!

Please visit http://www.garciavs.com for all your video needs.  Tell him the Satellite Dogs sent you for an extra good deal!

Satellite Dogs on "The Waiters" soundtrack
Category: Movies, Celebrities

We are happy to announce that several Satellite Dog's songs have been selected for the soundtrack for the indie comedy/drama film "The Waiters"

We find this very fitting for two reasons
(a) if you have ever heard or seen us, you know our songs are all comedy (in a tongue in cheek kinda way) and drama, either separately or tied together.
(b) all four of us have spent many years working as waiters.
(c)....there is no C, I said two reasons dammit! Now stay focused people.
Seeing how (b) is not true at all, although the bartender character in the film is based on Alan our drummer who has been known to pour a drink or two, which makes him a bartender not a waiter. In fact no member of Satellite Dogs has ever uttered the words "may I take your order." Which leads only one reason left, that being (a) as to why in the world anyone would consider our songs for their film.

But in the end aren't we all waiting for something?

~This film has yet to be rated~

Well as usual a lot has happened but it doesn't always get penned...the short of it is our bassist moved back to LA, the CD got moved to the front burner and we started performing again.  The CD should be released this summer...yes, this summer 06!  It sounds awesome after being remastered and we're in the art cover phase of the production now.

Holy crap! it's 2005 and the record isn't out yet. Well, you can call them reasons, delays, excuses or whatever you want. We just call it LIFE as a Satellite Dog..........................  in no particular order: Equipment failure (remember, this is vintage  equipment we are workin with). Rehab (no comment). Loss of limb (literally..ouch). Holidays (don't count). Relocation (Seattle is a far away place for your bass player to be). Artistic differences (blah, blah) We do promise to deliver and it will be candy to your ears .............. or if you don't like candy, it will be mocha latte grande....if you don't drink joe, it will be a schooner of frosty Newcastle with a head on it ........or if you don't consume ale, then it will be ...... wait a minute, if you don't like ale then something is seriously wrong with you.

And remember Satellite Dogs will not let you down, but if we do....we will do it gently.

We are currently recording an album of 15 songs at Big Dalton Studio in West Covina with producer Mike Halby who has worked with Canned Heat, John Mayall, David Hildalgo, Houndog. This project is being recorded all to analog 2" tape, with lots of vintage gear and many of the basic tracks are recorded live.  Should be ready for a summer release.............Meanwhile, check out the Calendar section for upcoming gigs.
